Remembering the Brave

 

     I strive to be apolitical in our Health Hints Newsletter. I also strive to be accepting of all points of view. After all, that's what makes our Great Country so Great. Having said that I believe that no matter what your political beliefs may be it is imperative that we all remember those Brave Men and Women who are away from home this season protecting our freedom so that we can relax and enjoy this glorious time of the year. Many of these young men and women leave home as boys and girls and find in very short order that they grow to fit the uniforms that they have donned. Some will not return home, not only for the Holiday but ever. They will make the ultimate sacrifice for you and me. So take a moment and watch this video that was forwarded to us by our friend and Silver Inner Health Circle™ Member John Kevin, and please remember these brave Marines and all the men and women serving in the U.S. Military in your prayers, especially during this Holiday Season.

Do It Now, Start the "Domino Effect"

     At this time of the year it always becomes even more apparent to me how our lives and even our actions impact the lives of others. When you really get down to it even our words can have a life changing impact on those with whom we have contact.

      Our words, actions and deeds have more of an impact on others than we often realize. This impact can be positive, or it can be negative. It is our choice really. I am not necessarily talking about changing the world, although that might be a welcome event at this point. No, I am talking about something much larger than that and something with more impact on the world. Read entire story

Drink More

     At this time of year that statement can be taken totally wrong. As I constantly preach, it is crucial that our dehydrated population drink more water. Remember what we read in the note from Silver Inner Health Circle™ Member Dave? His life was changed by simply replacing his soda with good 'ol H2O. Read Dave's story from our May 2009 Think Right.
 
     But what about the quality of the water and are you better off with spring water, bottled water, well water, or just plain tap water? Well the answer is most likely "YES". What I mean by that is you will probably be better off drinking water than some of the alternatives, regardless of the water source. SunAre You Deficient?

     Many of us are deficient in many things, and many ways for that matter. Today however I will talk about one major deficiency from which I can say with reasonable certainty the vast majority of even our most avid Health Hints™ readers suffer. That is a deficiency of Vitamin D.

     The research on this essential, and for most of us deficient, nutrient is mounting to the point that even the most conservative medical practitioner can no longer claim that all you have to do is drink pasteurized, homogenized, over heated, over processed, milk "product" which has been infused with "synthetic" Vitamin D, and you will be fine. After all Vitamin D is "TOXIC" and "too much of it is no good for you and could kill you" couldn't it? Not in your Holistic Health Lifetime Batman! Read entire article

What I am referring to is changing one person's life. This can have a greater effect on the world. How, you might ask? Well, you see, the way you can affect another person can result in the "Domino Effect". That person you "touched" in a positive way will touch another, and that person in turn will touch another and so on. By doing this we can ultimately change perspectives, beliefs, and the "World View".

     OK, so why do I appear to have such lofty goals? Well let's take a look at my favorite movie, particularly at this time of the year; "It's a Wonderful Life". I know, you might say this movie has become so cliché, and you are right, but let's look at the perspective change that "George Bailey" experienced in the brief hour and a half review of his life. We start off along with "Clarence", George's guardian angel, viewing all the important details of the life of George Bailey to that point, so that we as viewers and "Clarence", get a perspective as to just who George really is. Then we get a current view of where George is now in his life, and George getting into "trouble". As he prepares to jump off a bridge into the icy upper New York state waters of Bedford Falls, he makes a fateful statement and gets an opportunity that we also may need from time to time. You see George is given the opportunity to see what the world would have been like if he had "never been born". And man is it different than he remembers. He gets the chance to see how the world would have been if he had never been able to "touch" all the people that he did in his lifetime.

      Think about it, you do this every day whether you realize it or not. You impact the lives of many people, and in fact often times without any fanfare, change the course of their lives. That friendly smile you gave the waitress this morning may have just made her realize that she is not "worthless" as her boyfriend told her last night. The call you made to your Aunt Grace may have caused her to realize that she is still important to someone. The job that you offered to your neighbor who was just forced to retire helped him realize that his life does still have a purpose. You have the power to affect the lives of many others in "your world" in a positive way. You just need to realize what a responsibility and an opportunity this can be. Take advantage of this "chance" with each and every encounter you have with every friend, relative, or co-worker that you are given the opportunity to "touch". Make the "Transaction" a positive one. You see this truly is a "Transaction", since the "Receiver" gets an opportunity to change his or her perspective, and you my friend have an even greater "opportunity", you get the chance to change someone else's life forever!

      So where does the "belief" that Vitamin D is "toxic" come from? Well, long ago and far away in the poorly "nutritionally educated" medical community, it was determined that because Vitamin D is "fat soluble", meaning that the body will store excess in fat cells and other places in the body, you need to watch and even "restrict" the amount of vitamin D that you took into your body. After all, you manufacture Vitamin D when your body is exposed to sunlight. That much is true. You do, actually your "Amazing Community of Cells" that we refer to as our "Body", does this for us and believe it or not this occurs without any conscious thought on our part. This to me is wonderfully astounding and we take it for granted, and do everything in our power to mess it up every day (not our Inner Health Circle™ Members of course). I forgot one other detail in this impressive process; you my friends need to give your body the raw materials to manufacture the Vitamin D for you. And just what are those "raw materials" you might ask? Good question, the materials which you must supply are very easy to acquire. It is simply sunlight. But sun exposure is "dangerous", and too much sun causes cancer, doesn't it?  Well that can be true. After all if you are deficient in some of the protective substances that your body requires to guard your skin then yes it can be. But we as a health conscious country have gotten a little carried away with this one, to the point where we have "starved our bodies" of this "vital nutrient", sunlight. For this reason your body can not convert the other raw materials that it may or may not possess, into sufficient Vitamin D. Oh yes, one of the other raw materials is another maligned substance in your body. That substance is none other than "Good, Wholesome, Cholesterol. What, has Dr. P. lost his Holistic Health Mind? After all the "Big C", Cholesterol is the "Silent Killer" of the medical establishment, isn't it? Well my Inner Health Circle™ friends, I will tell you once again to "Think About It". First of all there is not a single solitary substance in this glorious and wonderful community that we call the human body that should not be there, including cholesterol. And please erase the terms "Good and Bad Cholesterol" from your collective Inner Health Circle™ minds. There is only "Appropriate Cholesterol", and "Appropriate Cholesterol". Yes, the balance can be off, but that is only because you, not your body, are doing the wrong things. You may be eating the wrong things, and by doing this creating "Toxicities" in your body, or you could not be getting appropriate exercise, and thereby creating "Deficiencies" that your body ultimately can no longer compensate for.  Watch for my Focus Health™ seminar series DVD on "Eating Right and Cholesterol" for a better perspective on this one. I want you to realize that the "Medical Bad Guy", Cholesterol is used to manufacture virtually every hormone in your body.

      Now that you have a perspective on what Vitamin D is and how you get it naturally, what are we discovering in the most recent research about this Vitamin D stuff, and why am I recommending that all of our Silver Inner Health Circle™ Members have their Vitamin D levels tested and begin supplementing with a good quality Vitamin D supplement (preferably a whole food source or supplement)? The reason is because Vitamin D receptors, the places where Vitamin D attaches to different cells and organs in the body, are being found on virtually every organ and gland in the body. What this means is that for proper functioning of virtually every cell, organ, and gland in your body "Sufficient Vitamin D" is required! The most recent research published indicates that Vitamin D is necessary to avoid "Insulin Resistance/Diabetes", and "High Blood Pressure, and Heart Disease".

    The next thing you should be asking yourself is; "I wonder if I could be deficient in this vital nutrient, Vitamin D?" Let me take a stab at answering that one for you. The answer to that one, in case you didn't already guess, is "YES, YES, YES!!!!!!! So how do you find out for sure? You get tested. AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!! If you are scheduled to have a physical or blood test in the near future ask to have it checked, and make sure that it is done. If you are not having it done soon then "YOU GET IT DONE"! You must take responsibility for this one, or it won't get done. I just had mine tested, and guess what?"I AM SUFFICIENT". I know that may not surprise some of you, but here is the "rest of the story". I had it tested a year ago and yours truly was "deficient". The good news is that I supplemented with our Cataplex D (our whole food source of vitamin D) and I am now in a good range.

      The last thing that I need to cover with you is that you MUST start supplementing with a good source of vitamin D, like our whole food Cataplex D. Don't wait until you are tested unless you already know that you are sufficient in vitamin D, and even then you have to work hard to see that you stay there. Your dose should be determined by your holistic health practitioner. I have seen doses vary from 200 IU. to 80,000 IU. Just starting by getting 400 to 800 IU which will not be "dangerous" for most of the adult population.

     So there you have it, your plan for the coming year. "GET YOUR VITAMIN D HOUSE IN ORDER"!!!!!

excusecontdWHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE? - continued

 

This Makes Me Nuts! I am reminded by my "Soul Mate" that this is "human nature". Well I guess I just don't like "human nature". You see, to me when I see someone work hard and make the "life-style changes" that are necessary, along with the specific "targeted functional nutrition" that their bodies require, in order to allow them to truly heal, that is really "the meaning of life fulfilled". This process not only requires a great deal of hard work and dedication on the part of the patient but also on the part of the "Holistic Health Practitioner" (that in this case would be Yours Truly).

     So let's take a look at this scenario not only from the patient's point of view, which I must say ultimately boils down to taking the "amazing changes", yes I will go as far as to say the "Metamorphosis" that most patients experience, for granted. Oh they will often have a good "EXCUSE", probably similar to some of the excuses that some of you have used to justify you're not making a simple change like drinking more water every day, getting more sleep, eating more vegetables, or not taking an even slightly more "dramatic" leap by trying our full system detox "Cleanse" with us. Oh you can always come up with a rationalization for not doing what you KNOW will make you healthier. If some of these excuses seem familiar to you, they were forwarded to us by Silver Inner Health Circle Member John Kevin. Yes, perhaps you can laugh at these as I did because you see some truth in them, but the sad truth is that excuses such as these are keeping you from becoming healthier, and in fact living longer. No, what I really want to do is to be selfish and look at what I have outlined for you here from my perspective. I want you to understand the frustration and disappointment that I experience when I watch a patient who has finally taken the leap and decided to become a patient at the Center, and go through a program which has been "personally and specifically" designed for him or her. What sometimes (even once is too much) occurs after both the patient and doctor working hard and seeing the often times dramatic improvement that occurs in their health is they then, for some unknown "human nature" reason, slowly and methodically allow it all to unravel in a gradual cascade which leads them to the point where they started. Thankfully this applies to only a minority of patients, but it is upsetting to see this occur even once. Now comes the "my perspective part". I have studied for years in order to learn the "Essential Keys to Health and Wellness". I have then "tailor made" a treatment plan for that particular patient. I have then spent weeks, months, and sometimes years "teaching, coaching, and gradually applying" these life changing techniques with the patient. I will watch and point out for the patient these progressive changes, which often times are so subtle that they can sneak by us if we are not watching out for them. I have used in many instances every technique, applied all of the knowledge, and expended enormous amounts of energy to assist that patient attain the health improvement goals that we have set together, only to see them discontinue their program often times using one of the "cartoon excuses" that our friend John provided for us. Can you possibly imagine how frustrating that is for me as the "Doctor, Teacher, and Coach"?

    O.K., enough of my whining. Here is the simple truth in a question form for you; Which excuse are you using to either keep you from doing what you know you need to do in order to improve your Health and Wellness? The flip side of that one maybe for some of you; Why did you or are you considering stopping the positive life-enhancing changes that you have made in your life? Listen to your reason carefully. I guarantee you that if you are truly honest with yourself you will see yourself in one of John's cartoons of excuses!

     Think about it, be honest with yourself, stop making excuses, and take the "leap" today. The other thing that those of you who have already made some of the wonderful "life enhancing" improvements that I have recommended over the last year must not do is take these amazing improvements for granted. Why? Because if you do, then in a short period of time you will be right back where you started!
