Now that I have your attention, I will tell you that this is one National Holiday that I will be lobbying for heavily myself, but for right now this is only a National Holiday for our Members. We all need to spread the word, however, about what I will be sharing with you today.
Soy products became popular in the early 1990's due to "slick marketing" and media hype. This wonder food was purported to have magical medicinal effects on everything from lowering cholesterol to reducing the risk of breast and prostate cancers. Most of these claims were based on marginal research and, once again, food industry marketing hype. When all else failed the "All Natural" label was applied. And just what does that mean exactly? Absolutely NOTHING! Except for some "minor" regulations on the meat production industry in our country today, there are virtually no guidelines for what can be labeled as "Natural" and exactly what that means. So you can forget that one.
This legume, which was not even on the agrarian radar screen in the earlier part of the 20th century, now covers 72 million acres of farm land in the U.S. This is in part due to government subsidies. You can see how far reaching the tentacles of this socio-economic monster really goes.
Soy protein has made it into virtually all of the "food products" consumed in our country today. This includes protein bars, meal replacement shakes, soups, fruit drinks, meat "analogs", breakfast cereals, and baked goods. Why is this you might ask? Well that is simple:if the "food product producing industry" can decrease costs, then it can increase profits. Since soy is a very inexpensive crop to produce, and it can be grown in massive quantities and replace more expensive crops, then all that was needed was a marketing campaign to literally "shove it down the throats" of the consumers of all sorts of "food products". All this in spite of the fact that this Phyto-Estrogenic" (plant estrogen) substance is actually driving estrogen levels in men, women and children in our country higher than they are already, and they are already much higher than they should be naturally. This phenomenon is contributing to everything from breast cancer to infertility.
I hope that you can see why getting the word out about this tragedy is vital to the Health and Wellness of our culture and society, so please take a moment and share this with a friend, coworker, or family member.
I will also ask one other thing of you and that is to "read the labels" of everything that you buy. See just how much soy you are actually ingesting.
Let's all work on getting Healthier by lowering our estrogen levels this year. This is a great start for you; cut out the Soy!
Yours in health,
Dr. Pfeiffer
