Back spasms subsiding for Harang

Back spasms subsiding for Harang

CINCINNATI -- Wednesday was a "really good day" for Aaron Harang, who is finally starting to get some relief from lower back spasms that have sidelined him all month, and he may begin throwing again in the next few days.

Harang -- who last pitched June 30 -- said he went to the chiropractor Wednesday and got an adjustment that paid off.

"We're starting to get it calmed down," Harang said. "Standing around at the Hall of Fame thing the other night, my back didn't like me too much for that. A little stiff the other day, then yesterday I was able to get a good adjustment and this morning a good adjustment."

Harang said he wasn't sure what his pitching schedule would be or if there would be a rehab assignment, and he'll have to discuss it with the trainers and coaching staff. He last threw during the All-Star break, and because of some discomfort, he decided to shut things down temporarily.

"I felt like I was making compensations to get through the bullpen," Harang said. "I talked to these guys and said, 'Look, I can't be throwing and making compensations because then I'm going to hurt something else, so I'm going to shut it down.' They felt the same way."

Harang said he has been going to the chiropractor almost daily. Although he hasn't pitched since last week, he said he walked on a treadmill and used an elliptical without discomfort. He said they wanted to wait to start a throwing program until he went a couple days without pain.

"I don't wish back pain on anybody," Harang said. "I'd rather something else hurt than my back. It literally puts you completely out of commission, you can't do anything."
